31 December 1889 -- 31 August 1967

Elwood Joseph Bauge was born Dec. 31, 1889 near Estherville, Emmet County, Iowa, the 9th child of the 10 children of Joseph and Julia Halverson Bauge. In the Halverson family history book, he is shown as Joseph and on his funeral card as Elwood Joseph. Elwood was 7 years old when his family moved from Estherville to near Dows, Iowa. At age 27, he was married to Gertrude DeForrest in April 1917. Gertrude was born in 1889 and died in Dec. 1942. She was raised on a farm about 3 miles west of Popejoy. They had no children. They farmed near Dows and were married for 25 years until her death in Dec. 1942.

Six years after Gertrude passed away, Elwood married Edna Estella Gaulke Fryslie in June 1948 in Clarion, Iowa. Edna was born on Nov. 23, 1896 and died on April 1, 1980 at 83 years. They were married nearly 20 years. After he left farming, he lived in Dows and had a small garage business.

He died Aug. 31, 1967 at the age of 77 years.
