Rev. Eaton Dies At NW Baptist Home

Jacob G. Eaton, son of Harrison and Susan Eaton, was bora in Canton, Mo., March 2, 1858 and passed away March 25, 1951 at the North West Baptist Home, Winnebago, Minn., where he had made his home for the past five and a half years. He had just celebrated his 93rd birthday.

He came with his parents to Iowa when he was young, and was married to Mary C. Maxwell on November 25, 1880. To this union eight children were born, three dying in infancy. He moved to Nebraska in 1885 and was ordained to the ministry by the Baptist church at Maywood, Nebraska in 1889. He preached on the frontiers of that new country for eight years, coming back to Iowa in 1893 where he served churches in the southern part of the state.

In 1900 he came to Goldfield and was pastor there for several years, during which time he helped to organize the Holmes Baptist Church, and it was his privilege on September 12, 1950, to attend the fiftieth anniversary of that church.

His last three pastorates were at Marble Rock, Fairbacks and Fredricksburg. He retired in 1925 and made his home in Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his wife and three sons, William O., John H. and A. LeRoy. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Maude Cline of Walnut Grove, Minn., and Mrs. Wade H. Nelson of Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services for Rev. Eaton were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Kastler Funeral home.

Rev. Harry P. Stickle, pastor of the local Baptist Church, conducted the service at the funeral home and Rev. Gordon Vaughn of Waukegan, Ill., grandson of Rev. Eaton, conducted the graveside service.

He will be greatly missed at the Baptist Home where, until the last few months he had taken active part in all the religious activities there.

HOLMES

Former Faster Dies In Winnebago Home

Rev. J, G. Eaton, who has been residing at the Pastors home at Winnebago, Minn., passed away on Saturday. Rev. Eaton was the first pastor at the Holmes Baptist church and later returned to fill the pulpit for several years and also served at various other times when needed. His funeral was held at Eagle Grove with burial there on Tuesday afternoon.
