Ray Dinnie
8 November 1896 ---- 21 March 1916

Ray Dinnie was born November 8, 1896, in Savanna, Illinois. He passed away March 21st, 1916 [in Belle Plaine]. Ray was the youngest in the family of ten children of George and Margaret Jane Dinnie. The mother had passed away August 6th, 1911, and was buried in Eagle Grove. Their home having been in Eagle Grove in 1888 and again in the years of 1905 and 1906. The father being connected with the C. & N. W. Railway Company. He moved from Eagle Grove to Belle Plaine where Ray completed his studies in the high school June 6th, 1915. At this time he was in delicate health and physicians advised an operation for appendicitis which he submitted to June 30th, 1915. He seemed to be gaining and was about, until again he was weakened and was taken to his bed in his final illness February 15th, 1916.

In his going he leaves to mourn his early departure the father, George Dinnie; three brothers: George, John and Arthur; three sisters: Katherine, Agnes and Mrs. Thumm Ealy. During his illness he gave evidence of a strong christian manhood. The Bible was much in his mind. Beautiful services were held at the church at Belle Plaine, Iowa, March 23rd. Accompanied by the family, the body was brought to Eagle Grove March 24th. Rev. Lucius M. Pierce of the Congregational church met the family at the station, going with them to the grave, for the impressive committal service. In the quiet of the beautiful day, Ray's favorite Psalm was read. The soul committed to God and the body of Ray now rests beside the mother.
