Sarah Ann Lennington Dayton
10 January 1809 – 16 January 1892

Mrs. Sarah Dayton passed to her eternal home last Saturday morning, January 16th, at the age of eighty-three years. She was born in New York state in 1809, lived in Canada several years, where most of her children were born. About twenty four years ago she, with her husband and children, came to Iowa to live. Twelve years since her husband died, and about eight years ago she came with her daughter, Mrs. Bromley, who was suddenly killed here almost two years ago, and built the house in which she lived until her death.

She leaves five sons and one daughter; one son, William, has been her constant care many years, for whom she has tolled with only a mother's devotion. Her sons, Baltus Dayton, of Pearson, Woodbury Co., and Hiram Dayton, of Homer, were here in attendance at the funeral services. She was a member of the Baptist church. As Rev. Zellhoefer was absent, Rev. Glasgow delivered an
excellent discourse, as a tribute to her memory. The weather being so bitterly cold, her remains were quietly interred in the Rose Hill cemetery.
