Curtiss Monroe Johnson was born on September 2, 1924, the son of Carl and Martha Dew Johnson in Humboldt County, Iowa. He received his education in Norway Township in rural Humboldt County and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1941. He then attended Eagle Grove Junior College in Eagle Grove.

Following his education he farmed on the family farm in Norway Township. He then entered the United States Air Force in October of 1944. He served during World War II and was Honorably Discharged in February of 1946.

He was united in marriage to Vera Laursen on January 30, 1955, at the Oak Hill Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa. The couple made their home west of Eagle Grove, where they have continued farming since their marriage.

Curtiss M. Johnson died on September 22, 1994, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge following a short illness. He had attained the age of 70 years, and 20 days.

He is survived by his wife Vera of Eagle Grove; three children, Carl Johnson and wife Cheryl of Eagle Grove; Kristen Waugh and husband Doug of Earlham; and Rosane Brown and husband Roger of Des Moines; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and a sister Janet Wollenhaupt and husband Ralph of Fontanelle, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Carroll Lighton.

He was a longtime member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, the Eagle Grove Masonic Lodge, and the Ruffles and Spurs Square Dance Club.

Funeral services for Curtiss Monroe Johnson were held on Saturday, September 24, 1994, at the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Reverend Lyle Peters officiated the 2 p.m. service and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
