Darrell John Beckel, 80, of Clarinda, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, May 3, 2019 at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines after brief health issues.

Darrell was born to Arthur John and Helen Elizabeth (Yenck) Beckel in Vincent, Iowa on December 16, 1938. His family later relocated to Clarinda where Darrell graduated high school in 1958. He was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Neff on August 28, 1960. The couple had 3 children.

Darrell served in the Iowa National Guard while also working for Page County Roads. He later worked as an electrician and eventually took a position as a Lineman for Atlantic Municipal Utilities in 1972, where he would reside until returning to Clarinda to be near his aging parents. He later moved to the Iowa Great Lakes region where he retired and eventually back to Clarinda where he resided until his death.

Darrell was an avid hunter and fisherman and truly enjoyed passing his love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren. While he enjoyed the outdoors, he also took great pride in helping his family with any of their crazy construction or remodeling projects, and would often even stop by to help mow a yard. Although somewhat reserved and quiet, Darrell was a very loving and thoughtful man, willing to help anyone that he could. He was not a man of great wealth, but rather, a man of great values and passion for his family.

Left to cherish his memories are his 3 children; Tina Jennings (Lowell), of Shambaugh, Linda Templeman (Chuck), of Atlantic, and Jay Beckel (Jaeka), of Clarinda, as well as Grandchildren; Tyler Beckel (Heather), Mackenzie Templeman (Tyler Middleton), Jordan Miller (Justin), Kaitlyn Jennings, Kemper Beckel, Karsten Beckel, Josh Sickels, Adrianna Sickels, Kylor Sump, William Sump; 3 Great Grandchildren, Jackson, Camille, and Addisyn; a sister, Diane Moulden (Danny), of Basehor, KS; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Hamm, of Terrace Heights, WA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his loving wife Gladys, both of his parents, his Uncle Bus, who he greatly admired, his sister, Donna (Jeanie) Jones, and most recently his best friend and brother Don Beckel. Darrell will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
