July 26, 1868 --- May 26, 1938

Ernest C. Kraft, 69, died Thursday morning, May 26, at the Mercy hospital in Fort Dodge where he had submitted to an operation the day previous. The immediate cause of death was given as peritonitis arising from a ruptured intestine. He had been seriously ill only since the previous Saturday.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o’clock at the Lutheran church with Rev. J. H. Reents officiating. Burial was made at Luni cemetery.

Ernest C. Kraft was born July 26, 1868, at Holstein Germany, and came to this country in 1884 when he was 16 years of age. He first located in Tama county, Iowa, and a few years later came to Wright county, locating in the farm northeast of Renwick which he still owned at the time of his death.

He was married February 25, 1895, to Miss Anna Holck and to this union twelve children were born. One died in infancy and Clara died March 4, 1925. Mr. Kraft was a prosperous farmer and retired in 1925, moving to Renwick with his family and locating in the home which he bought and where he resided until his death. His wife died June 3, 1931.

The surviving children are: Henry and George of Renwick, Ernest of Eagle Grove, Fritz and Arthur of Corwith, Mrs. Doris Fredrickson of Veconda, Wis., Mrs. Mary Kubly and Mrs. Anna Blumer of Livermore, Mrs. Emma Kubly of LuVerne and Mrs. Irma Westendorf of Buffalo Center. One sister, Mrs. Emma Packer of Lake Park, also survives. All of the children except Mrs. Westendorf who is seriously ill, and Mrs. Fredrickson were with Mr. Kraft during his illness and death. There are 25 grandchildren.

Mr. Kraft was a lifelong member and active worker in the Lutheran church and was a deacon for a number of years. He was a good husband and father and a good citizen, taking active part in anything that affected his home life. He was honest and upright in his convictions and expected the same in others. Although a stern man, he was a good neighbor, and those who knew him best were glad to have him as a friend.

He was married November 3, 1937, to Mrs. Anna Schueder who survives him. Although suffering from the results of a hip injury for many years, Mr. Kraft had been in good health up to the time of his recent illness. He was 69 years and ten months old at the time of his death.

Langholz of Calumet, Iowa, Fritz Hamdorf, Fred Hamdorf, W. Hamdorf, H. Hamdorf and Mrs. Herman Bangren of Cedar Lake, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nagle of Mason City, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Holck, H. E. Holck, Fred Holck, Adolph Holck and Wm. Sillman of Britt.

Walk and family of Kanawha, Mrs. Kermit Holck, Harley Holck and Mr. and Mrs. Hilery Greiman of Garner, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Holck and son and Olaf Gilbertson of Jeffers, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Luethje, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Woehik, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Luethje, Raymond Luethje, Miss Lenora Schroder, Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Otto, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Luethje, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Luethje, Martin Geise and Mrs. Henry Luethje of Gladbrook, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kraft, Mrs. Freda Heidecker and family and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kraft of Renwick. There were also a great many friends here from a distance.
