Edmund Charles Hilpipre, the son of Paul and Mary Eaton Hilpipre, was born June 4, 1898, at Woolstock, Iowa. He attended the country school near Woolstock. On January 6, 1930, he was married to Margaret Bony of Woolstock at Clarion. Following their marriage they farmed near Blairsburg and Dows before moving to Eagle Grove in 1945. Ed worked for the Maplewood and Fisher Dairies, then the fire department in 1955. He retired in 1961. For 12-1/2 years they operated the Hilpipre Tavern and for one year they operated Margaret's Kitchen in Eagle Grove.

He died Monday, October 24th, at his home at the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 20 days. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Betty Lavonne (Mrs. Dean) Huffaker, Woolstock; one brother, Leo Hilpipre, Webster City; six sisters: Josie Brandt, Ankeny; Ada Brandt and Mary Kastler, Woolstock; Lydia (Mrs. Wm.) Claude, Webster City; Delia (Mrs. Harold) Rohrer and Florence Rink, Clarion; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson; three brothers: Paul, Henry, and Charles; and two sisters: Ida Mourlam and Rosie Smith.

He was a member of the French Lutheran Church near Woolstock. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Kastler - Babcock - DeYoung Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Rev. Vincent James of the United Methodist Church, Woolstock, officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
