John H. DuBois, Respected Authority on Plastics
GREEN BROOK, NJ - John Harry DuBois, 82, an authority on plastics, died Saturday (March 22, 1986) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. He was born in Clarion, Iowa, and lived in Watchung amd Morris Plains before he entered Greenbrook Manor Nursing Home in Green Brook about two years ago. Mr. DuBois graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in electrical engineering and began his career in the plastics industry with the Bakelite Division of Union Carbide during the Depression. During World War II, he became president of Tech-Art Co. in Morristown. He was vice president of Mykroy Ceramics Corp. in Denville when he retired to a second career of writing, consulting and serving on the boards of directors of several companies associated with the plastics industry in New Jersey. He was a charter member of the Plasties Hall of Fame and recipient of an International Award (Gold Medal) in Plastics Science and Engineering by the Society of Plastics Engineers, and the Diamond Jubilee Award by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Mr. DuBois was national president of the Society of Plastics Engineers in 1948 and president of the Society of the Plastics Industry in 1972. He was author and co-author of several textbooks and reference manuals on plastics engineering, and he wrote a comprehensive history of the plastics industry in the United States. He was technical editor or contributor to numerous plastics trade magazines and he authored sections on plastics for the World Book Encyclopedia.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Peterson DuBois; a daughter, Helen Veltkamp of Hawthorne; a son, John of Lyndhurst; a brother, Warren of Canada; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held.
