Junior Darwin (J.D.) Hinz was born January 4, 1929, the son of Herman and Dorothy Meyer Hinz at LuVerne. He attended parochial school in LuVerne and graduated from Vernon High School, Vernon Township, Humboldt County, in 1947.

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy on January 20, 1948 at Fort Dodge. He received his honorable discharge on February 23, 1950 at the U.S. Naval Recruiting Station in San Francisco, Calif.

He was united in marriage to Anna Belle Miller of Rodman on August 29, 1953 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Following his marriage, he then enlisted into the U.S. Air Force in 1953. On November 30, 1971, he retired after 20 years of service. At the time of his discharge, he had earned the rank of Tech. Seargent [Sergeant].

The couple moved to Eagle Grove in 1972 where they have made their home since. He was employed with the Umthun Trucking Company in Eagle Grove as an owner/operator. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, the Eagle Grove V.F.W., and the Goldfield American Legion.

J.D. Hinz died at the Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City, Saturday, August 8, 1992. He had attained the age of 63 years, seven months, and four days.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Ronald and Brian both of Eagle Grove, and Gareld of Panama City, Fla.; one brother, Myron of Lebo, Kan.; and a sister, Mrs. Grady (Ruth Ann) Hinson of Burke, Va.; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held August 11 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in LuVerne. The Rev. Thomas Evans, pastor of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, officiated at the 11 a.m. services and burial with full military honors were held in the LuVerne Cemetery.

Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
