Gertrude Gretchen Espe Hansen was born at Webster City, Iowa, March 18, 1923, the daughter of Loren and Marie Hurst Gordon. She received her education in the Webster City schools. She was united in marriage to Curtis O. Espe of Webster City on Dec. 7, 1940 at Webster City. They made their home in Webster City until moving to Eagle Grove in 1969. Mr. Espe died in 1974.

Gertrude was united in marriage to Earl Hansen of Duncombe, Iowa on March 17, 1979, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. The couple, made their home on a farm south of Duncombe.

She had been in ill health for some time and had spent two months in a Des Moines hospital and the last three months at Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge. She died there on Friday, Oct. 17, 1986 at the age of 63 years, seven months and one day.

She is survived by her husband Earl; three sons, Ronald Espe of Marshalltown, Donald Espe of Hot Springs, S.D., and Richard Espe of Fort Dodge: two daughters, Patricia, Nelson of Eagle Grove, and Mickey (Mrs. John) Kelley of Eagle Grove; two sisters, Lorene (Mrs. Ray) Trulli of Baltimore, Md. and Shirley (Mrs. Chelsey) Wilson of Washington state; 13 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Curtis Espe, and two brothers, Richard Gordon and Louis Gordon.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 20, 1986 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig officiated and burial was in the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City.
