Lula Ruth Beer was born October 29, 1911, at Bloomington, Illinois, to Charles and Ida Beer. The family came to Iowa in 1913 to a farm near Corwith. On September 22, 1930, she and George M. Kelling were married at Clarion. They lived and raised their family in Clarion. George Kelling died in 1954, and she continued to live in Clarion until entering the Dows Care Center in 1989. She was a faithful member of St. John's Catholic Church and Circle.

Ruth Kelling died on Monday, September 7, 1998, at the Dows Health Care Center in Dows at the age of 86.

Survivors include her children: twin daughters, Irene, Mrs. Burton Fitz, Iowa Falls, and Ilene, Mrs. Kenneth Gardalen, Latimer; four sons, Charles of Texas, Raymond of Webster City, Joseph of Eagle Grove, and Richard of Forest City; 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Ruby Maynard of Kanawha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George, sons, George, Jr., and Robert; three brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 1998, at St. John's Catholic Church in Clarion with Reverend Wayne Droessler officiating. Burial was held in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.

Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements.
