Sylvus Orin Jones was born June 9, 1918, at Clarion, the son of Walter and Ada Knight Jones.

He graduated from Goldfield High School in 1935, and served in the Army from 1943 to 1945. He returned to Goldfield after his discharge from service, and operated Jones Food Market for many years.

Sylvus was united in marriage to Ruth Warner of Goldfield on February 15, 1941, at Fort Dodge. They have made their home in Goldfield since he returned from the Army.

He had been in ill health for some time, and died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on April 25, 1988, at the age of 69 years, 10 months, and 16 days.

Sylvus was preceded in death by his father, his brother, Norman, and an infant sister, Kathryn Jones.

Sylvus is survived by his wife, Ruth, Goldfield; his mother, Mrs. Ada Jones, Eagle Grove, sons, Douglas and Michael of Houston, Texas; daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Roberta) Grizzaffi, Garland, Texas; Larraine Trotter, Goldfield; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Francis Jones, Webster City; Raynard Jones, Goldfield; and one sister, Mrs. Carl (Letha) Martin, Milo.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 28, at the United Presbyterian Church, Goldfield. The Rev. Victor V. Victoria officiated at the 10 a.m. service, and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
