Lyle Mathews, 70, of Colfax, Iowa died of cancer Thursday at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery. Mr. Mathews was born in Woolstock. He retired as a mechanic and a self-employed millwright. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife, Miriam; two daughters, Marlene Camp of Boone and Kathy Mathews of Colfax; four sons, Lyle of Malvern, Ark., Larry of Boone, Ray of Maxwell and Leland of Colfax; his mother, Edith Nystrom of Jewell; a sister, Melba Tolstrup of Jewell; two brothers, Donald of Madrid and Gaylord of Cedar Falls; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home.
