Helen Esther Middleton was born on a farm in Troy Township, south of Eagle Grove, Iowa on December 18, 1907, the daughter of Adam Leslie and Mary Ellen Price Middleton. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Troy Township and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1928. She lived with her parents and kept house and cared for them until they died. She later lived at Salem, Iowa for a few years and then lived at the Henry County Care Facility and in December of 1981, she moved back to Eagle Grove and in August of 1982, she became a resident of the Clarion Care Center. She was never married.

She died at the North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City on Friday night, January 25, 1985 at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 7 days.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Myra Savage of Salem, Iowa; a brother, Talford Middleton of Marshalltown, Iowa and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Hale Ross Middleton.

Funeral services for Miss Helen E. Middleton, age 77, were held Tuesday, January 29, 1985 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home and burial was in the Troy Township Cemetery. Rev. Scott C. Hall, pastor of the United Methodist Church officiated.
