Page 1, Columns 5 & 6Edward Jessie Young, son of John and Ann Young was born Nov. 1, 1874 in Jeffersonville, Ind., and passed away at the home of his nephew, Thomas Bell, May 2, 1944 at the age of 69 years, 6 months.
In his early youth his parents left their Indiana home moving to Chicago and later to Carroll county, Iowa where he received his education.
For many years he was a steam shovel engineer for the Chicago & North Western railroad, retiring 6 years ago with pension.
When he was young he was christened into the Presbyterian church.
In the year 1924 he was initiated into the order of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, joining Lawn Lodge 815, Chicago, Ill. He was a member of this lodge at the time of his death.
His parents have long since passed to their reward but he leaves to mourn his passing two foster sisters, Mrs. Bev Seay of Lake City, and Mrs. Mina Martin of Cedar Falls.
He was kind hearted and very patient and was a friend to everyone. Through his sufferings he was very cheerful.
Funeral services were held May 4th at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral home, in charge of Rev. Harry Throckmorton.
Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. George Ben of Woodstock, Ill., Mrs. Mary Daley, Mrs. Hazel Olson, of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. and Mrs. Bev. Seay, Miss Hazel Seay, Alfred Carey of Lake City, Iowa.
