Mrs. John Vike, Sr., Buried on Monday.

Mrs. Ragnhild Serena Vike was born at Longholmen, Mosterhaven, Norway, September 29th, 1850, and died at the home of her son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. John Vike, Jr., West Broadway, Eagle Grove, Iowa, Saturday morning, November 4th, 1939, at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 6 days. She was baptized unto Christ, received Christian instruction and confessed her Christian faith in her youth.

At the age of 24 years she was united in marriage to Nels Nelson. Mr. Nelson did not live very long. A little girl Bertha was born to this union. This daughter, Mrs. Bertha Robinson, died April 13, 1912. In September 1878 she was married to John Vike at Tegland, in Mosterhaven. In 1883, Mr. and Mrs. Vike with their family came to America, to Jewell, Iowa. They lived in Jewell until in 1885 when they moved to Woolstock, where they lived about 15 years, then moving to Renwick, and in March 1903 they came to Eagle Grove, which was their home until Mr. Vike passed away on Sept. 3, 1929. Since that time Mrs. Vike has lived with her children.

To Mr. and Mrs. Vike, 8 children were born, one son and seven daughters. Two of the daughters have passed away, Mrs. Bell Lorimer and Mrs. Clara Noel. The six surviving children are John Vike, Jr. Eagle Grove, Mrs. Sophie Eaton, Armstrong, Mrs. Anna Solberg of Boone; Mrs. Martha Cox, Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Jennie Larson, Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Lena Middleton, Eagle Grove. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Otto Stensland, Kenyon, Minn., and one brother, John Tegland, Valley City, N. Dak.

Mrs. Vike was a sincere and conscientious person, a devoted wife and mother. She was a sincere and consecrated Christian, with a childlike faith in her Saviour. She loved the church of Christ and treasured the service which His church could give her. She bore her sickness and suffering patiently.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 6, from the home and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
