Harold C. Benson, 78, of 1562 43rd St., Rock Island, Illinois died Wednesday, July 27, 1994, at home. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. The body was cremated.
There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, where he was a member for 50 years; Pathway Hospice, or a favorite charity.

Mr. Benson was born March 13, 1916, in Clarion , Iowa, the son of Alfred and Anna Larson Benson. He married Elnora Bisbey May 2, 1938, in Davenport.

He was employed as a bus driver for the former Tri-City Lines in the Quad-Cities from 1941 to 1965. He later drove a truck for the Rock Island School District for 16 years, retiring June 2, 1981. He was past trustee of the church, charter member of the VIP senior group at the church, president of the Bus Drivers' Union, Quad-Cities, for 20 years, vice president of the drivers' union in the Rock Island School District, president of the bus company credit union, and president of the employee hospitalization program for the union. He enjoyed gardening and flowers, golf and high school sports.

Survivors include the widow; a son, Michael Benson, Dayton, Texas; three grandchildren; and a sister, June Oldham, Clarion.
