WOODROW WILSON XANDERS

Woodrow Wilson Xanders, was born September 12, 1912, the son of Al and Hannah Rehr Xanders, at West Salem, Ill.

He attended rural school near Goldfield. He was united in marriage to Vonieta Haas of Eagle Grove on August 19, 1942, at Bethany, Mo.

Woodrow served in the Army during W.W.II, from 1942-1945, with duty in the southern Philippines, Luzon, and New Guinea. Following the war he returned to Iowa. The couple moved to Eagle Grove where they have lived since that time.

He was employed by Webster City Products, retiring from there at age 62.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, the V.F.W., and the American Legion.

He entered the Hamilton County Hospital, Webster City, one day before his death. He died there August 10, 1988, at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 28 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clarence, and Glen; and three sisters, Ora Morrow; Carrie Askvig; and Opal Hanson.

He is survived by his wife, Vonieta, Eagle Grove; and one brother, Edgar Xanders, Mason City.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 13, 1988, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Military rites at the graveside were conducted by the Eagle Grove Veterans Organization.
