DEATH OF MRS. JAMES LONG.

Word was received in Eagle Grove Friday evening that Mrs. James Long had died in Chicago. She went in some two weeks ago to submit to an operation which was necessary to save her life. She has been a sufferer for about four years and of late her trouble has been complicated with others of a more serious character, which rapidly assumed a serious phase. Relief in all the ways known to medical skill had been resorted to, but they proved of no avail and the operation was decided upon as the only manner in which a possibility of restoration to health was considered. She was put in the St. Joseph's hospital and every attention was given her, but all were of no benefit. The operation occurred on Wednesday morning and Mrs. Long slowly sank until Friday afternoon when the end came.

Mrs. Long was a woman who had many friends. She was a warm hearted and happy woman, one who was always ready with a kind word and a helping hand. She was a loving wife and mother and gave her husband and children the best care and attention that a fond mother could give. She was a member of St. Mary's and was a consistent christian.

Mary Smith was born at Elgin, Illinois, about thirty-four years ago. Her early life was spent there and fourteen years ago she became the wife of James Long and removed to Eagle Grove where her home has been since. To bless the home came two children and they, with a bereaved father, survive. They are Johnnie, aged 13; and Helen, aged 7 years. They are both splendid children and will sorely miss a mother's love. To Mr. Long also is extended the sympathy of many friends and acquaintances in his sorrow.
