Eugene Hallock Dies in Washington

Eugene Hallock died in a government hospital at Washington, D. C. He had been seriously ill for several months. At the time of his father’s death last spring he was too ill to be told the sad news. Mrs. Hallock was graduated from the Eagle Grove high school with the class of 1912. He was co-publisher of the Eagle Grove Times-Gazette after his graduation and enlisted in the army early in 1918 and was over seas nearly a year. After the war he engaged in the printing business in Denver, Colo. About a year ago he secured a position at Washington.

We are unable to get the details of Mr. Hallock death or the funeral arrangements at the time of going to press.

Bury E. Hallock in Arlington Cemetery

Eugene D. Hallock, 39, whose death at Washington, D. C. was announced last week, was buried in Arlington National cemetery at Washington, D. C. His death was caused by peritonitis following a gall bladder operation. He was given a veteran’s burial with firing squad from Ft. Meyer, accompanied by a group of friends from his unit in the government printing office. The great number of floral pieces in evidence at the funeral attested the many friends he had made in his brief stay in Washington and there were also many from here. “Gene” was always a “good soldier”, always cheerful, brave and true, and met the end with the same unflinching courage which characterized his life.

He is survived by his wife and two children, a little girl, aged 3, and a 7 months old baby boy. His sisters, Mrs. Ellen Cowan of Ree Heights, South Dakota, and Mrs. Arloine Pratt of Chicago were in attendance at the funeral. The loss of their brother was exceedingly hard for them to bear. Within such a short time they have been called upon to part with first their mother, then their father and now their brother. Mrs. Hallock will remain in Washington for the present.
