John Eugene McDonald

J. E. MCDONALD
The funeral of J. E. McDonald, 64, former local business man and resident of Eagle Grove for 32 years, was held Saturday morning, August 10, at Sacred Heart church. Mr. McDonald succumbed to a heart attack Wednesday evening, August 7, at 9:45, death coming within a few minutes. His wife and two sons were with him at the time of his death. The celebrant at the solemn requiem mass was Rev. Robert McDonald. Deacon of the Mass was Rev. Thomas OToole, Lycurcus. Rev. N. C. Barrett of Loras college was sub-deacon, and Rev. James Cassidy, Loras college, was Master of Ceremonies. The sermon was preached by Rev. John Howell, Loras college; Rev. John Byrne performed the obsequies. Interment was in Calvary cemetery.

J. E. McDonald was born September 26, 1875, in Buchanan county, Iowa. He received his education in the Telford Academy at Vinton, Iowa, and Highland Park college, Des Moines. Before coming to Eagle Grove, Mr. McDonald was engaged in the drug business at Marshalltown. He represented the Des Moines Drug Co., in northwest Iowa territory for twenty years before engaging in business in Eagle Grove.

Surviving are the deceased's wife, and two sons, Rev. Robert McDonald, a member of the faculty of Loras college, Dubuque, and Lawrence McDonald, a member of the faculty of Pio Nona Academy, Milwaukee, Wis. Four brothers also survive: Thos. F., St. Louis; J. J., Phillipsburg, Mont.; Eugene, Lincoln, Neb.; and Emmet, Pocatello, Idaho.

Murphy, Miss Julia Sennett, Mrs. J. Hunter, and Miss Eva Johnson, all of Gilmore City; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Klapka, Clare, Mrs. Mervin Condon, Clare, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Holliston, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Vincent McMahon, Clare; Mr. and Mrs. Clem Ford, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Julia Condon and Helen, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Iva Byrnes and son, Humboldt; Rt. Rev. Monsignor Thos. Conry, Dubuque; Rt. Rev. Monsignor E. J. Dougherty, Waterloo; Rt. Rev. Monsignor J. P. Martin, Waterloo; Rev. Father Rooney, Charles City; Miss Catherine Rooney, Charles City; and Mrs. C. Struble, Iowa City.
