Thomas Vorre was born September 23, 1891, at Stavanger, Norway, the son of Torger and Olena Hvidenas Vorre.

After completing his schooling, he engaged in fishing, going out on the ocean in the fishing boats which were such a vital part of the Norwegian way of life.

He came to America at the age of 18, and engaged in farming West of Eagle Grove.

He was united in marriage on February 28, 1917, to Amy Schwenck of Eagle Grove, at the Methodist Church in Fort Dodge.

The young couple farmed west of Thor for three years, Northwest of Thor for 18 years, and then moved to the present farm where they have lived since that time. On February 23, 1970, they observed their 53rd wedding anniversary.

Tom retired at the age of 65, but continued to take an active interest in livestock and the out-of-doors. He enjoyed being with people, riding in the countryside, and was a man of his word. He accepted his illness as the way things were meant to be, and never wished to burden anyone with his troubles.

He had suffered from diabetes for some time, which had caused him much discomfort and loss of one leg.

He entered Bethesda General Hospital in Fort Dodge, on Friday, March 6, and died there on Monday morning, March 9, at the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 16 days.

He is survived by his wife Amy, Eagle Grove, and one brother, John Vorre, Thor.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Nels, and a sister, Anna Gjerstad.

He was baptized and confirmed in Norway.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, with Rev. Donald L. Forbes officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
