Harry R. Wasem, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Trinity Hospital, Fort Dodge following a brief illness.
He became ill at his home on West Broadway Tuesday afternoon and was moved by ambulance to the hospital, where he died a few hours later.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Donald Glazier. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery Goldfield.
Mr. Wasem was a life long resident of Eagle Grove having been born here in 1885. He was a machinist and employed by the Chicago and North Western R. R. for 50 years, retiring in 1953. He and his brother, the late Homer Wasem, who owned a drug store here for many years, made their home together until Homer Wasem's death several years ago.
OBITUARY
Harry R. Wasem was born December 2, 1885, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Adam and Sadie Arnold Wasem.
He received his education in Eagle Grove.
Mr. Wasem was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a machinist for 50 years, retiring in 1953.
He was united in marriage to Lillie Grebe of Rockport, Mo., in 1928. She passed away in 1939.
Harry became ill at his home and was taken to the Trinity West Hospital, Fort Dodge, on November 26. He died there several hours later on Nov. 27 at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 24 days.
He is survived by a number of cousins.
Mr. Wasem was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows, charter member of the White Shrine, and a 50 year member of the Railroad Machinists.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, at the Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Glazier officiated, and burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
Masonic services were at 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
