October 1, 1863 --- April 11, 1950

Mrs. Wm. Black Succumbs at 86; Services Friday

Mrs. William R. (Louise) Black, 86, of 1135 South Walts ave., a Sioux Falls resident for 33 years, was stricken at her home Tuesday evening after an illness of 1-1/2 years. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Miller funeral home. Dr. John V. Madison and Dr. Irving E. Putnam, Minneapolis, will officiate. Mrs. C. B. Van Ausdall will be organist and Mrs. Glen L. Minor will be soloist.

Mrs. Black, widow of the late Rev. William A. Black, was born October 1, 1863 in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. She was raised there and was married there October 5, 1881. The couple lived in New York state, South Carolina and Iowa before coming to Sioux Falls in 1917 when the Rev. Mr. Black retired. A member of the Methodist church and very active in church work, Mrs. Black also was a member of the WCTU.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. O. A. Dunbar, Pierre, and Mrs. M. M. Brumbaugh, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mrs. Black’s body will lie at the Miller Funeral Home until the hour of the funeral services when the casket will be closed.
