PAUL R. UMSTEAD

Paul R. Umstead was born on December 3, 1916, west of Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Sam and Nellie McCutcheon Umstead. He grew up in the Eagle Grove area and attended school at Eagle Grove. He served his country during World War II in the Army overseas in Africa and Italy. On August 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Maxine Sanders at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. He worked as a livestock buyer until his retirement in 1965. He also helped his brother, Leroy, at the Eagle Grove Sale Barn. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Paul R. Umstead died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, Eagle Grove; one daughter, Sandy Wheatly, and husband, Phil, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one son Mike Umstead and wife, Ann, Perry Okla.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, LeRoy, Robert and Lyden.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday (today), July 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with the Reverend William Ballard officiating. Burial will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
