Mrs. Charles Gross Dies Christmas Night In Clarion

Mrs. Charles Gross, 78, died Thursday night, Dec. 25th in the Clarion hospital where she was a patient but a few days. She had not been in good health for some time.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Methodist church in charge of the pastor the Rev. Roy Cox. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Gross is survived by her husband and five children, William and Edward of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Arthur Wiggins of Clarion, Mrs. Arthur Orum of Carthage, Ill., and Mrs. Henry Hanson of Needham, Mass.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and one brother Maurice Born of Cerro Gordo, Ill.

Mary Ellen, daughter of John and Regina Born, was born December 19, 1880 near Columbus City, Indiana. She died Christmas night 1958.

She was one of a family of eight children. The moved to Ohio and later to Cerro Gordo, Illinois. There she lived until her marriage to Charles Ellsworth Gross on August 15, 1915.

To this union was born two daughters, Margaret Ellen and Dorothy Regina. She was also a devoted mother to her husband’s three children William Ketton, Edward Ellsworth and Mary Harriet.

All their married life was spent in Eagle Grove with the exception of the years between 1938 and 1953 when they lived in Ames.

All of her life she has been interested and active in her church.

Those surviving her are her husband Charles E. Gross and her children William K. and Edward E. Gross, both living in Eagle Grove, Mrs. A. L. Wiggins of Clarion, Mrs. Arthur Orum of Carthage, Illinois, and Mrs. Henry Hanson of Needham, Massachusetts. She has twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren and one brother Maurice O. Born of Cerro Gordo, Ill.

Funeral services were held Dec. 29th in the Methodist church in charge of the pastor Rev. Roy Cox. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
