November 19, 1920 --- April 22, 1999

Catherine C. (Shorty) Jerde, 78, a longtime Webster City resident, died April 22 at Southfield Care Center in Webster City, following a lengthy illness. The body was cremated and there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Webster City with Rev. Patrick Gaalaas and the Rev. John Walsh officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time. Gunderson Funeral Home in Fort Dodge is in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Eve Jerde, Clive, Michael and Roxanne Jerde, Leawood, KS., and Thomas and Marcia Jerde of Nevada; grandsons Trenton Jerde, Minneapolis, Robert Jerde, Des Moines and Randy Hoyle of Palm Beach Gardens, FL., her brother, Russell Rohrer, Greenbank, WA and Sandy Jerde, Des Moines; 31 nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Don in 1961, her parents Edward and Catherine Schumacher Rohrer and five brothers and five sisters.

Catherine C. Rohrer was born Nov. 19, 1920 on a farm south of Clarion. She received her education in the rural schools of Woolstock Township and then Clarion High School, graduating in 1938. She married Donald J. Jerde on Sept. 27, 1941. They made their home in Clarion where for several years they owned and operated the New Home Café. In the fall of 1952 the family moved to Webster City and she worked as a homemaker. In the summer of 1960, she began employment with the Farmers National Bank in Webster City where she worked until her retirement in December 1982. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church of Webster City.
