Margaret Louise (Pick) Mock, 90, formerly of Clarion, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial for Louise Mock will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with a Rosary Service beginning at 4:30 PM and Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Margaret Louise (Pick) Mock was born September 13, 1928 to Hubert and Ola (Hiter) Pick in Clarion. She was raised on a farm in rural Clarion, attending St. John’s Catholic School through 8th grade, before attending and graduating from Clarion High School in 1946. Louise was active in 4-H and in county spelling contests, as well as music. She played piano and organ in school and in church, as well as violin in the school orchestra. She later joined the North Iowa Symphony Orchestra. Louise was also a member of the American Guild of Organists and United Ostomy Association. Louise was a bookkeeper most of her adult life in the Clarion area.

Louise was united in marriage to the love of her life, William (Bill) Mock at St. John’s Catholic Church on July 25, 1955. The couple made their home in Clarion and raised their daughter, Ramona. In 2010, Bill and Louise moved to Fremont, Nebraska to be closer to Ramona, and later to Montrose, Colorado with Ramona and her family. Bill and Louise were voted Valentine King and Queen at the Fremont Friendship Center in 2014. Louise returned to the Clarion area in 2015. Most recently, she was a resident of Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa.

Louise was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church, was a member of Catholic Daughters, the Te Deum Choir, and was the organist and keyboardist at St. John’s for many years.

Louise had a keen interest in local history, was a member of the Clarion Historical Society, the Wright County Historical Society, the Clarion Culture Center and Clarion Museum Foundation. She was a charter member of the Heartland Museum board having served as historian for the museum. She compiled a history of the Belmond Middle School and was also a member of the Belmond Area Arts Council. Louise enjoyed researching family genealogy, needle crafts, collecting antiques, coins and baking with her grandchildren.

Louise is survived by her children, Douglas (Barbara) Benson of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and Ramona (fiancé Don Miller) Laboy of Ames, Iowa; grandchildren Brian (Kelly) Benson of Des Moines, Stephan Laboy, serving with the Peace Corps in Madagascar and Maria Laboy of Omaha, Nebraska; great-grandchildren Jacob Benson, Karli Benson and Emily Benson; son-in-law Vincent (Jenny) Laboy; sister Mary Jean Hocraffer of Clarion; brother-in-law Robert (Marlene) Mock of Brookings, South Dakota; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, a great niece, Christine Hocraffer, a brother, Bernard Pick, her husband, Bill, and a grandson Mark Benson.
