W. Monaghen Dies; Rites Wednesday

GOODELL — Funeral services for William Monaghen, 73, will be held Wednesday in the St. Mary's Catholic Church at Goodell. The Rev. R. A. Ormsby will officiate. Interment will be in the St Francis Cemetery at Belmond.

Mr. Monaghen was born in December 1881 on a farm near Goodell. He was a rural mail carrier for many years and for the past few years has been employed In the Oscar Olson pool hall.

Mr. Monaghen became ill in February and has been a patient at the Belmond Community Hospital, where he died Monday morning.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Arthur Lowenberg, Paul Kramer, Don McNulty, Leo Kearney, Howard Dominy and Roy Barry.

William Monaghen Final Rites Held

William Monaghen passed away Monday at 4:00 a. m. in the Community hospital at Belmond following a long illness.

He was born at Goodell on Dec. 21, 1881, son of the late Patrick and Katherine Monaghen, on their farm now owned by the Charles Halfpops. His father passed away when Bill was 14 years of age, leaving him to assist his mother with the farm work.

They left the farm 45 years ago, moving to the home now owned by Frank Kemp. Bill later resided in the two-room cottage west of Kemps.

After moving to town, Bill was west rural mail carrier for many years. The past few years he was employed in the Olson pool hall.

He was taken ill last February and since then had been a patient at the Belmond hospital or at the Jordan Nursing Home at Eagle Grove. Two weeks ago his condition became very serious and he returned to the hospital. His nieces and nephews assisted in his care, staying with him until his death at the age of 73. He was a faithful member, supporter and attendant of the St. Mary’s church. He was the last survivor of a family of four sisters and two brothers. He leaves many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 9:30 a. m. at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Goodell, with the Rev. R. A. Ormsby officiating.

Burial was in the family lot in the St. Francis cemetery, Belmond. Pallbearers were Leo Kearney, Paul Kramer, Roy Barry, Don McNulty, Howard Dominy and Arthur Lowenberg.
