Bertha Foss Anderson
14 August 1863 ---- 30 January 1948

Bertha Foss was born to the parents, Jon and Sarah Foss, August 14, 1863, at Strandebarm, Hardanger Norway, and died at her home, 1102 N. Wright Ave., Eagle Grove, Iowa, January 30, 1948, age 84 years, 6 months and 16 days. She was baptized unto Christ in her infancy, in the Strandebarm church. In 1874 she came with her parents to America, to the vicinity of Decorah, Iowa where she attended the public schools of Winneshiek county, Iowa, and received instruction and confessed her Christian Faith under the late Dr. V. Koren.

On the 22nd of June, 1894, she was united in marriage to Andrew Anderson, at Eagle Grove, by the late Dr. H. C. Holm. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson lived for some years on their farm home near Clarion, Iowa and in 1914 they moved to Eagle Grove, where Mr. Anderson died on January 8, 1932. Mrs. Anderson is now survived by their four children, Mrs. Stella Bygness, Goldfield, Mrs. Mae Heggen, Renwick, and Alma Anderson, Eagle Grove, and Arthur Anderson, also of Eagle Grove, and by four grandchildren, and by two brothers, Hans Foss, Decorah, Iowa, and John Foss, St. Paul, Minn., and by two sisters, Mrs. Christine Wood, Charles City, Iowa, and by Mina Foss, Cresco, Iowa. And by a large number of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Anderson was a loveable character, quiet and unassuming, a kind and dutiful wife and mother, a good neighbor. She was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church as long as she lived in Eagle Grove. She loved her church and her Saviour. As long as she was able she was a faithful attendant upon the church worship. Mrs. Anderson's health has been failing for some time, which she bore patiently, until she passed away quietly last Friday evening. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial was made in the family lot of the Rose Hill cemetery.
