Margaret A. Smith, 87, of Des Moines, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Margaret was born July 13, 1931, in Belmond, IA, daughter of Floyd and Nina (Ebeling) Mortimer. She grew up in Cedar Falls where she attended school and graduated from NU High. In 1949 she was married to Raymond Leon Smith and they made their home in Waverly, IA, they later divorced. She was employed by the Bremer County Sheriff’s Department. Margaret then returned to Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo where she obtained her Associates Degree. She worked as a Respiratory Therapist for Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. After her retirement she made her home in Urbandale. In free time you could find Margaret reading a good book.

Margaret is survived by her children; Cynthia (David) Taschner of Edward, MO, Kathryn Flanders of Iowa City, Gregory Smith of West Des Moines, Donna Stout of Des Moines and Linda Smith of Minneapolis, MN, several grandchildren, a brother, Gary Mortimer of Los Angeles, CA and a sister, Charlotte Carney of Seattle, WA
