October 1, 1931 –-- January 17, 2019

Merlin Cleo Heggen, 87, of Monroe, Washington, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Evergreen Health in Monroe. His family will be honoring his life at a service held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 26th at Foothills Foursquare Church, Monroe, Washington. Merlin was born October 1, 1931 in Eagle Grove, Iowa to Leonard and Agnes Heggen. He was the eldest of four children, sisters Lynnette and Betty and brother Richard. Merlin married Dora M. Surdyk February 22, 1957 and they are survived by their five children, Merle (Dina) Heggen, Teresa (Dan) Leslie, Linnea (Wayne) Green, Lisa Radach and Martha (Mike) Snider. Thirteen grandchildren Tyson, Jeffrey, Darrick, Jacob, Stephanie, Ashley, Trevor, Shane, Kevin, Jered, Devon, Kyley and Katie. And seven great grandchildren. Lucas, Zoey, Jack, Jerald, Andrew, Liley, and Edmund with one more on the way. Merlin joined the Navy in 1951 and served over 3 years as a cook aboard the USS Iowa. Merlin worked as a carpenter for most of his adult life, building many homes including two homes that the family lived in. Merlin attended Foothills Foursquare Church in Monroe, Washington where he was active in the food ministry and enjoyed being a help to Pastor Bruce Hill.
