Lorraine M. Sebring, 80, of Hawkeye and formerly of Sumner, died Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Unity Point/Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner, with Rev. Michael Christie officiating. Interment will be at the French Cemetery in Woolstock, Iowa, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday. The family suggests that memorial donations be made in her name to the United Methodist Church in Sumner.

Lorraine Marie, daughter of John Cedric and Gladys Claude Yoder, was born July 2, 1938, at Woolstock, Iowa. She was baptized June 15, 1952, and confirmed May 31, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Woolstock. She received her education in the Woolstock and Eagle Grove schools and graduated from Eagle Grove High School.

On November 21, 1956, she was united in marriage with Darrell D. Sebring at the Methodist Church in Woolstock. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove until moving to Cedar Falls in 1963. Darrell completed his degree at UNI, and they moved to Sumner in 1964. Lorraine worked as an accountant at Walker Ford and Lampe Masonry and as a nurse’s aide at Community Memorial Hospital, prior to becoming the secretary to the superintendent of Sumner High School from 1976 until 2000.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner, the U.M.W. Ruth’s Circle, various other church committees, the Sumner Hospital Auxiliary, the Hawkeye Singles and Hawkeye Senior Citizens groups, and several card clubs. In addition to enjoying playing cards, she loved sewing, reading, and knitting. Her family really treasured her knitted slippers!

Lorraine is survived by her three children: Darla Marie and her husband, COL (R) Leslie G. Huck, DVM, U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, San Antonio, Texas; Tony and his wife, Mary, Sebring of Centerville; and Derick and his wife, Crystal, Sebring of Davenport; grandchildren: U.S. Department of Homeland Security Border Patrol Agent Leslie G. Huck, III, and his wife, Mayra; MAJ Andrew D. Huck and his wife, MAJ Mona Min, both U.S. Air Force officers; Heidi Marie Huck-Cook and her husband, David Cook; Oliver Vera and his wife, Genesis; Audry and Hailey Fahey; Miles Smith; Shelby Sebring and her partner, Trent Moore; Ashton Sebring; and Hannah, Brooke, Abigale, and Madison Sebring; great-grandchildren: Helena and Penelope Cook; Anderson Huck; Benton Moore; and another great-grand baby Moore due in May; one great-great-granddaughter: Ximenia Vera; and three sisters: Ardy (Cliff) Malaise of Woolstock, Shirley (Dennis, Sr.) Salmon of New Hartford, and Brenda Yoder of Polk City; one brother: John Cedric Yoder, Jr., (Nancy) of Johnston; and one brother-in-law: Eldon Myers of Eagle Grove. In addition to her husband, Darrell, who died January 30, 2006, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers in infancy; sister, Geri Abbas-Myers; sister-in-law, Dorothy Search; and brother-in-law, Jim Bob Search.
