MATHILDA SELGELID
Mathilda Oakland was born on March 27, 1892 at Randall to Peter and Carrie Dalh Oakland. She received her education in Randall. On February 13, 1908, Mathilda was united in marriage to Edward C. Selgelid at Randall. They farmed in the Jewell area for two years and then moved to Ceylon, Minn., and farmed for two more years. In 1913, Edward and Mathilda moved to Renwick, where they operated a furniture and undertaking business. They later operated the restaurant in Renwick for a number of years. Mathilda was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick. She was also a member of Rebecca Lodge and Royal Neighbors of America. Mathilda's husband, Edward, died in June of 1969. Mathilda moved to the Kanawha Community Nursing Home in Kanawha, in the early 1980's.

Mathilda Selgelid died Sunday morning, August 21, 1988, at the Kanawha Nursing Home at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Elroy; one grandson; four brothers; and five sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Oren C. and wife Irene, Rock Island, I11.; and Perley, Renwick; two grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick, with Dr. Palmer Wold and Pastor Oliver Everson officiating. Interment was in Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Hardy.
