Daryl Ralph Mortimer age 72 of Camarillo, California passed away Monday Dec. 20, 1999. Mr. Mortimer was born April 25, 1927 in Belmond, Iowa. Daryl was a very dedicated man who devoted his life for service to others. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 at age 17 years. He was honorably discharged in October 1947. He married Irma Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1948. In 1950 he joined the Cedar Falls Police Department. After six years on the department he moved his family to California where he joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1956. He was active in many divisions including being a training officer at the Los Angeles Police Academy. He retired after 20 years on the department in 1976. In 1982 Daryl and his wife became missionaries to Mexico printing Bibles in El Paso Texas and distributing them in various parts of Mexico. He was ordained in 1984 as a Baptist minister. In 1991 he founded and pastored Faith Baptist Church of Cottage Grove Ore. He suffered a heart attack and open-heart surgery in January 1997 and returned to California where he resided in Camarillo. He was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in March 1999.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Irma Mortimer; son David (wife Donna) Mortimer of Thousand Oaks; daughter Linda Webber of Camarillo; grandsons Jeffrey and J.J. Mortimer of Thousand Oaks; Matthew Webber of Camarillo; granddaughter Lori (husband John) Machin; great-grandson Travis Machin all of Thousand Oaks; brothers Verrille and wife Virginia of Cedar Falls, Iowa Don and wife Betty of Janesville, Iowa and Gary of Eagle Rock; sisters Margaret Smith of Des Moines Iowa Charlotte Carney and husband Keith Carney of Ashland, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Nina Mortimer.
