Ida Watkins Dies After Long Illness

Miss Ida Louise Watkins died Saturday forenoon at the convalescent home of Mrs. Courtney in Grundy Center where she had been a patient the past 3 years. Death was the result of a heart ailment. She was 81 years old.

Miss Watkins was a life-long resident of Grundy county. She was born on a farm three miles west of Grundy Center and she grew up there. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Watkins. She was a member of the second graduating class of the Grundy Center high school. She graduated from Iowa State College in 1897. She taught in rural schools of the county and at Galt, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Surviving are four brothers and two sisters. The brothers are: Frank, Grundy Center; Howard, Washington, D.C.; Harry, Ovid, Colorado; and Harold, Cohasset, Minn. The surviving sisters are Mrs. Hattie Schafer and Mrs. John Cone, Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Ferree Chapel in Grundy Center. The services were conducted by Rev. Green VanPutten. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. Pall bearers were Glen Cone, Elwood Cone, Lawrence Watkins, Gerald Schafer, Marvin Schafer and Lindsley Watkins.
