James Christensen, the, son of Hans and Anna Marie Rasmussen Christensen, was born on October 30, 1890, at Goldfield, Iowa. He died at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove on Monday morning, August 17, 1981, at the age of 90 years, nine months and 17 days. He grew up on a farm near Goldfield and attended the rural schools. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I, and served in France. On March 17, 1920, he was united in marriage with Winnie M. Hovey at Eagle Grove. To this union were born two children, Margaret and Vernon. The family farmed northwest of Eagle Grove until 1948, when Jim and Winnie, retired from farming. They continued to live on the farm until 1974, when they moved to Eagle Grove. Mrs. Christensen died on January 27, 1981. He was a long time member of the American Legion.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Bennett of Tulsa, Okla.; his son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Darcia Christensen of rural Eagle Grove; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, George Christensen of Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant brother, and three brothers, Rasmus; Frank; and Harry.

Funeral services for James Christensen were held on Thursday at 10 a.m., Aug. 20 at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Don Callen, pastor of the United Methodist Church officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Military Honors were conducted at graveside by the officers and members of the American Legion Post. Mrs. George Jorgensen was the organist and Mrs. Don Royster was the soloist. Jim Christensen, Howard A. Bennett, Jr., Jerry Christensen, Robert Johnson, Scott Christensen and Kelley Christensen were the casket bearers.
