This city and entire community was shocked last Sunday morning by the news of the death of Mrs. Howard Porter which occurred around 5 o'clock Sunday evening with awful sadness. The day had been spent by the whole family in a visit at Hugh Jones' in Woolstock township. So far as known, Mrs. Porter was in her usual good health and had been in particularly good spirits during the day, cheerful and happy as usual. Mr. Porter returned to the house after being out about 20 minutes and found her lying on the floor lifeless. Help was call but the "living soul" had left its tenement forever.

Mrs. Porter was the daughter of Mrs. A. Baker of this city. She was born in Marion County February 5, 1861 coming to Eagle Grove with the family where in 1865 she was married to C.H. Porter. She leaves to mourn her untimely death her husband and three children: two boys aged 13 and 11 and one girl aged 6 years.

The funeral was held at the house Tuesday and the burial in the Rose Hill cemetery.
