James L. "Jim" Hill, Sr., age 89 of Fairborn, Ohio passed away Friday October 19, 2018 at the Hospice of Dayton. He was born February 2, 1929 in Vincent, Iowa, the son of the late Otto and Carolyn (Sandvig) Hill. Jim served his country in the US Air Force during Korea and followed with employment in civil service at Wright-Patterson AFB, retiring in 1989 after 42 years of combined federal service. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn and served as a basketball and football official with the Southwest WOL league for many years. Jim and his wife enjoyed competitive dance roller skating and he was an avid golfer at Twin Base Golf Club. He was also a member of the Rod and Gun Club at Wright-Patterson AFB. He was a true family man who loved to visit with his grandchildren often. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie and Patricia; and a brother, Conly. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Ellen; two sons, James L. Hill, Jr. of Fairborn, Greg Hill of Fairborn; four grandchildren, Christina (Zach) Norman, Brian Hill, Mikaela Hill, Morgan Hill; two great granddaughters, Zoey and Brooklyn Norman; three sisters, Karen, Janice, Mary; a brother, Douglas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday October 25, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A funeral service will be held on Friday October 26, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1130 Highview Dr., Fairborn, Rev. Karen Cassedy officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Fairborn -or- the American Cancer Society. Belton Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E.
