Ruth Irene Moen
Ruth Irene (Jensen) Moen was born August 16, 1932 in Eagle Grove, IA to Thorvald and Margaret (Sorensen) Jensen. She went to school in Eagle Grove until after her 8th grade year. Ruth and her family moved to Newell, IA where she would graduate high school in 1950. She started working at First National Bank in Newell after her graduation until her marriage. On April 16, 1952, Ruth married Ole Moen in Des Moines, IA. Following their marriage, they moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa where Ruth started working at Union Trust & Savings Bank as a bookkeeper until she advanced to a teller. In 1958, Ruth and Ole moved to Denison where they purchased the Cape Cod Motel. They started their family in 1959 with the birth of their late-daughter, Kay, and had their second and final child, David, in 1965. Ruth’s mother “came to make home” with them in 1969. Ruth started working part-time at the drive-in facility of Crawford County Trust & Savings Bank in 1970. She gradually worked more until she became a full-time teller. Ruth retired from banking on December 30, 1999.
She was a member, an ordained Elder, an ordained Deacon, and a former Sunday School Superintendent at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. She was also a member of the fellowship and outreach committee and the church choir, even though she didn’t know how to read music. Ruth loved volunteering and being active in the community. For over 40 years, she was a member of the American Cancer society.
On Friday, October 19, 2018 Ruth passed away peacefully at Eventide Nursing Home at the age of 86. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, David Moen of Denison, Iowa; 2 grandchildren: Jay Wolff and Amy Wolff; great-niece, Melissa “Missy” Stasko, and her husband John of New Springfield, Ohio; her “very special forever friend” Gladys Ahart of Denison, Iowa; and many other relatives and numerous friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ole Moen; daughter, Kay Wolff; sister, Marian (Jensen) McClelland; brothers, Robert Jensen and Norman Jensen. In honor of Ruth, memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or the United Presbyterian Church in her name.
