Marilyn Hoffman, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018, at home under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow the visitation on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Marilyn and her family.

Marilyn Ann Beurskens Hoffman was born in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended Holy Ghost Catholic School in Dubuque and then when her family moved to Marshalltown, attended and graduated from St. Mary School in 1951. She excelled at bookkeeping and worked for Bos Trucking after graduation. After the last child began first grade, Marilyn became a long-time employee of the Marshalltown Senior High cafeteria, starting as a cafeteria worker and then moved on to head bookkeeper. On April 25, 1953, she was united in marriage to Cecil Hoffman at St. Mary Catholic Church.

She was a dedicated wife and mother, enjoyed antique auctions, refinishing furniture and time at their home on Lake Cornelia. Later in life, she became a fan of Notre Dame Football, Ryan Gustin racing, and technology. Everyone in the family has an afghan crocheted by Marilyn. Her family was very proud that she mastered an iPhone, a laptop, tablet, Netflix and Chromecast. She was known to watch car racing on her laptop, tablet and on television all at the same time. She was truly a “techie” grandma. Marilyn also enjoyed watching the live webcam of the Decorah eagles as each spring they laid their eggs, raised their little ones and then encouraged them to leave the nest. Most important to her was her faith and family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Cecil, infant son, Peter, and brother, James (Shirlee). Marilyn is survived by sons, Terry (Jane) and Tim (Carolyn); daughter, Sherri Hoye (Bruce); grandchildren Erin, Carissa Rowberry (Gabe), Noel, Laura, Caitlin and Grant; the first great grandchild due in June; sisters Janell Terrall (Tom) and Connie Beurskens; and brother Robert (Sue) Beurskens.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic School, the Lake Cornelia Improvement Association or the Raptor Resource Project (Decorah Eagles Webcam).
