EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Rev. Robert Vevle, 92, of Eden Prairie passed away at home with his wife and family by his side on Tuesday evening, Sept. 11, 2018.

Robert J. Vevle was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Rowe, Ill., to Rev. Carl M. and Myrtle (Strand) Vevle. He graduated from Wautoma High School (Wisconsin), St. Olaf College, and Luther Theological Seminary. He was a veteran of World War II Army Air Corps and received his honorable discharge for the U.S. Air Force. Bob married Mary Valtinson Dec. 26, 1954. Mary was the daughter of Rev. Joseph O. and Marie (Erickson) Valtinson.

Bob served Lutheran parishes in South Wayne and Coon Valley. He was called by the Division of Aging of the A.L.C. to serve the Moravian Church’s Marquardt Manor Retirement Community in Watertown, Wis. as CEO/Administrator. He was later called by the South Dakota District of the ELCA to serve as CEO/Administrator for Bethesda Home, Aberdeen. He served on a number of local, state and national committees and boards.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary; five daughters, Jan Allen of Little Rock, Ark., Joan (Jim) McCord of Portland, Ore., Kris (Steve) Sletten of Stoughton, Wis., Krin (Sam) Reid of Edina, Jean Vevle of Bloomington; nine grandchildren, Alex (Holly) Allen, Justin (Michelle) Allen, Ethan Allen, Ian McCord, Siri McCord, Kirsten Sletten, Rena Sletten, Mari Reid, Lissi Reid; one great-grandchildren, Hadley; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Muehlenbeck, Betty Valtinson, Lois (Ron) Moore; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ralph Allen; his sisters, Hilda Vevle, Lois Vevle, Margie (David) Eastwood, Norma (Fred) Patterson; his brothers-in-law, Rev. Joe Valtinson and Bob Muehlenbeck; and his parents.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Normandale Lutheran Church in Edina, Minn. A reception will follow. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa. Memorials are preferred to Luther Seminary. Arrangements are with the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home.
