Funeral Services Held For Luther Tanner Last Sunday
Luther Tanner, young liberty township farmer who lived on the farm with his mother, Mrs. Rose Tanner, died last Thursday morning from a self-inflicted rifle wound from a 25-20 cartridge which pierced his heart. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Tanner home and the sermon was given by the Rev. Wm. Zabilka, pastor of the Klemme Methodist Church.
Obituary
Luther Irving Tanner was born January 18, 1909, and died October 28, 1937. Age 28 years, 9 months and 10 days. He lived his entire life on the home place. He attended his home country school until he completed the grades. Then he attended the Klemme High School from which he graduated in 1927. He was interested in School athletics and played on the high school baseball and basketball teams. For the last few years he has been playing baseball with the Garner Red Sox and basketball with the Klemme Vagabonds.
He was made a life member of the Kings Herald of the Liberty Church when a boy and united with the Church on Confession of his faith in Christ April 12, 1925. While his untimely death was a shock not only to his own loved ones, but to the entire community, yet the disease germ had worked its way deeper into his life than anyone had dreamed of. Our Sympathies as well as those of the entire community and all who knew Luther, or "Mike" as he was better known among his friends, go to the grief struck family.
Those who survive him are: his mother, Mrs. Rose Tanner; his brother, Robert; three sisters, Florence at home, Bernice who is teaching school at Madrid, and Francis who has a position in Chicago.
