Almen Oren Larson, 59, of Iowa Falls, died on Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services will take place on Monday, July 28, at 11:00 a.m., at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, with Rev. Brian King officiating. Burial will be in the Ossian Hillside Cemetery, Ossian, on Friday, July 25, at 2:00 p.m. There will be no visitation.

Almen was born on December 6, 1943 in Fort Dodge, to Almen and Anna (Stole) Larson. He graduated from the Fort Dodge High School in 1961 and Luther College in 1965. He was a member of the Dow Jones and the Averages as a drummer, coached basketball and football from 1965-77, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Almen was united in marriage to Janice Marie Bradley on September 3, 1965, at the Good Sheppard Lutheran Church in Decorah. He had been employed as an insurance agent and was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls.

Surviving are his wife, Janice of Iowa Falls; a son, Andrew of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Heidi Strien and husband, Todd of Waterloo and Amy Maschka and husband, Jeff of Lincoln, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Anna Strien, Kaiser Strien, Isaac Strien, Madeline Maschka and Maeson Maschka; two brothers, Loren and wife, Betty of Alden and Don and wife, Karen of Santa Ana, California; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elton and Katy Bradley of Decorah. Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant sister.
