24 March 1917 --- 11 February 1992

Vernon Stensland, son of Osmund and Ella (Saboe) Stensland, was born March 21, 1917, at Badger, Iowa where he was reared. He received his education in the Humboldt County school system. In 1939, he was united in marriage to Agnes Vinnece. They farmed in the Thor area for 15 years, until moving to Humboldt where they were in the motel business for many years. After the death of his wife in 1978, he continued to make his home in Humboldt. In 1979, he was married to Norene Hansen. They made their home in Humboldt and later in Dakota City. He was in the construction business and also served as a bus driver for the Humboldt Community Schools for 25 years. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Humboldt and was a past president of the Izaak Walton League.

Vernon Stensland, 74, Dakota City, died Tuesday, February 11, 1992, at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Agnes. Survivors include his wife, Norene; two daughters, Mary Kirchhoff of Monticello, Ind., and Janet Nichols of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Dale, Three Rivers, Mich.; and Mike, New Castle, Colo.; four stepdaughters, Rhonda Berka of San Mateo, Calif.; Tam Christensen, Carroll; Maria Conlon, Tinely Park, Ill.; and Sharla Ashelford of Lincoln, Neb.; one stepson, Ron Hansen, Harlan; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 11 step grandchildren; two sisters, Del Sandvig, Humboldt; and JoAnn Halverson, Eagle Grove; and two brothers, LeRoyn and Darryl Stensland, both of Thor.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt, with Pastor Jerry Raether and Pastor Richard Merrill officiating. Burial was in the Corinth Township
Cemetery near Humboldt. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt was in charge of the arrangements.
