Alma Besse McCutcheon, the daughter of A. B. and Ida Dean Beisell was born on April 3, 1893 at Goldfield, Iowa. She grew up and graduated from the Goldfield High School with the Class of 1910. She taught rural school near Galt, Iowa and later at the rural school in the Evergreen area near Goldfield. On December 4, 1912, she was united in marriage with William H. McCutcheon at Goldfield. To this union were born two children, Everett and Margaret. The family farmed in Evergreen area on the McCutcheon home place until 1946, when Bill and Bess, retired and moved to Goldfield. Mr. McCutcheon died on November 11, 1976. Besse had been a resident of the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove since 1974.

She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Women. She was a charter member and the first president of the Evergreen DOC Club and was a charter member of Goldfield American Legion Auxiliary. She died on Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, 1981 at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 19 days. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret and her husband, Russell Oviatt of Goldfield; her son, Everett and his wife, Connie McCutcheon of Eagle Grove; three grandchildren, Dean Oviatt of Cedar Rapids; Beverly, Mrs. Paul Jacobson of Eagle Grove; Barbara, Mrs. Russell Dodge of Eagle Grove; six great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two sisters, Mari, Mrs. Homer Pardun of Mason City and Mrs. Gladys Gangstead of Goldfield and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, a sister, Katherine Sherman; three brothers, Earl Arthur and Dewey.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Besse McCutcheon were held on Thursday, Sept. 24, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. Rev. Lester Hancock officiated and burial was in the family lot at the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
