Nels Nilson Roseland
October 15, 1862 --– January 2, 1945

Nels N. Roseland was born October 15, 1862, to the parents, Nels and Sigrid Halverson, in the Kvinnherred Parish, Sunnhordland, Norway, and died in his home at Eagle Grove, Iowa, January 2, 1945, age 82 years, 2 months and 17 days. He was baptized unto Jesus Christ, was taught the way of salvation in Christ and confessed his Christian
Faith in his youth. At the age of 20 years he came to America, to Clinton county, Iowa, remaining there about two years, coming to Eagle Grove in 1884. In 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Ragna Amundsen. Mr. and Mrs. Roseland lived in Eagle Grove until they moved to their farm home in 1890. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Roseland. One son Arthur died in Infancy October 12, 1900. Mrs. Roseland died April 25, 1909. One son, Nels Olai died April 14, 1925. He is now survived by four daughters, Mrs. Lester Olson, and Helen, Ida and Lillian Roseland. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and by six great-grandchildren. He is the last one of his family of brothers and sisters.

Mr. Roseland was an industrious and frugal man, honest and friendly, always willing to help his fellowmen. While living on his farm he was awakened to the truth that even though he had always lived a good life, still he was unsaved at that time. In his anguish of soul because of his condition he called on the Lord Jesus Christ and sought the forgiveness of sins with God, and thus found peace for his soul. He was an earnest Christian the rest of his days, was an active member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical church. He served in various capacities in the church, that of Sunday school teacher, trustee and for 37 consecutive years he was a member of the board of deacons. In the office of deacon he was exemplary faithful in visiting the sick and the shut-in and those in need. He read the word of God to them, often with a few comments, prayed with them and often sang a stanza of a Christian hymn. When his health no longer permitted him to continue, many inquired, "Is Mr. Roseland ill, we miss his visits."

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. Burial was made in the family lot of Rose Hill cemetery.
