It is with great sadness that the family of Darlene Ann Ryan, announces her passing on Monday, July 30th, 2018, at the age of 77 years. Darlene will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Joe, and their son, Daniel (Maggie). Darlene will also be fondly remembered by her five grandchildren, Nick (Amber), Daniel, Alexandria, Aidan, Nia, and by her brother, Dennis, (Darlene) and by Joe’s family, sister Donna (Jerry), brother Frank, sister Eileen (Maurice, deceased), brother, Roland (Lynne) and brother Patrick (Bonnie, deceased). Darlene was predeceased by a stillborn son, Timothy, her sister, Judith and her parents, Edwin and Hulda Vilhauer.

Darlene Ann Ryan was born on the family farm on November 18, 1940, in Bonham County, Avon, South Dakota. Darlene had two siblings, a sister Judith (deceased) and a brother Dennis. Darlene attended a country school near her farm and then graduated from high school in Tyndall, South Dakota. After graduating from Southern State College in Springfield South Dakota, Darlene married Joseph Ryan from Platte, South Dakota in 1964. They had two children Daniel (Maggie) and Timothy (stillborn). Darlene taught in West Harrison Elementary School for four years in Modale, Iowa. Darlene and Joe then moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa where, along with a partner, started and operated the Panda Bear Preschool for 11 years. In 1998, Darlene and Joe moved to Farnhamville, Iowa, where Darlene operated the Kiddie College Preschool in surrounding towns Calendar and Harcourt for three years. Darlene and Joe then moved back to Eagle Grove where she enjoyed traveling with Joe while he was employed by Northland Travel for the next 15 years. Darlene enjoyed spending time in Boise, Idaho with her son Daniel and his family. She loved entertaining friends, was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and was a former member of the Catholic Daughters and Music Club.

A Funeral Service in memory of Darlene will be held on Friday, August 3, 2018, at 10:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 204 So. Jackson, Eagle Grove, Iowa. A luncheon will be provided after the service.
