Marie Ostrom Berg was born in Skjold, Stavanger, Norway [Rogaland], September 16, 1847. She was baptized in the home congregation of the Lutheran church as a child and confirmed Oct. 12, 1862. She was a faithful and devout member of her church throughout her long life. She was united in wedlock to Jacob Berg in 1871. Eight children were born to them. Two passed away in Norway and one in Infancy, and a son at the age of ? years. Her husband passed away in Norway in 1897. As her remaining children had left home and emigrated to the United States to make their future homes here, she also decided to move to the states and arrived in Eagle Grove, in the year of 1908. Here she spent her last years, living with her children who have their homes in Eagle Grove and vicinity. Mrs. Henry Orsland of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Jens Orsland, of Eagle Grove. Jacob Berg, Thor, Mrs. Lauritz Solheim, Thor, Thomas Berg, Camrose, Canada, and Mrs. G K. Dohl of Latcher, S. D. are the children.

Mrs. Berg passed away on Monday, August 15, at her daughter's home, Mrs. Henry Orsland of Eagle Grove. About two years ago she suffered a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. At the time of her death she was 79 years, 10 months and 29 days old.

Funeral services were held at the East Side Lutheran church of which she was a member, on Wednesday, Aug 17. A large number of friends sympathise with the bereaved family over the loss of a good, loving mother. Throughout her life she endeavored to live as a loyal disciple of her Savior and in whom she confessed complete trust and hope in the hour of sickness and death. Thus her life and example are an inspiration for those who remain.
